Requirements
SUMMARY OF JOB:
Provides Leadership and direction in store operations by articulating the company’s strategic plan, initiates and executes actions to drive and accomplish the strategic plan and delegates responsibilities to implement training methods and merchandising techniques that will achieve all company objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Promotes and accomplishes sales objectives through proper merchandising techniques and training of associates to make the store operations more efficient in order to meet changing customer requirements and the company’s business plans.
• Develops and administers a fiscal plan to effectively meet customer requirements while at the same time controlling expenses, achieving budgeted labor goals and maximizing profits.
• Promotes effective two-way communications with customers and all store associates, identifies areas needing improvement and develops programs and methods to cultivate customer goodwill, positive staff interaction and promote team work and high moral. Empowers associates to handle customer complaints properly and professionally. Conducts timely store meetings to discuss goals, accomplishments and changes.
• Responsible for all facets of store operations, store conditions and appearance. Insures the proper use and maintenance of all physical facilities and store equipment, manages the stock and controls how company assets are utilized. Promotes awareness of loss prevention and security issues so as to protect company assets.
• Keeps aware and complies with all federal, state and local laws and regulations governing the operation of the store. Keeps department managers and others in the store abreast of all legal requirements. Promotes diversity and an equal opportunity environment. Acts as spokesperson on issues with the community and enhances community relations by being involved in and with community events and organizations.
• Directs and maintains company safety, fire and sanitation programs to insure for the safety and well being of all customers and associates. Maintains orderly and clean store. Insures that all equipment is maintained in clean and good working condition. Insures all merchandise and product is fresh. Communicates important safety information, investigates complaints and performs physical inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, sanitation requirements and other company standards.
• Supports and executes all company programs to achieve profit objectives, insures that company policies are communicated to and understood by all associates, vendors and suppliers, monitors for compliance. Promotes effective vendor relations and follows through with their problems.
• Provides leadership through example by effective performance and by maintaining a neat and well groomed appearance, ensuring associates do the same. Sets the standards that provide for a positive, safe and exciting store environment. Conducts performance appraisals. When work performance falters, is responsible for counseling, training or retraining of associates and if necessary administering appropriate discipline, consistent with company standards. Also provides positive feedback as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:
• Strong understanding of all phases of store operations in a retail environment.
• Must possess excellent communication skills (both oral and written), good leadership and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to get along with customers, vendors, suppliers and associates, and must be able to motivate and lead others.
• Must have basic math skills to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margins, markups. Percentages and volume.
• Working knowledge of computers required
• Requires knowledge of interviewing techniques
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working environment consists of walking the store frequently to keep updated on store conditions and to interact with customers and associates. Some travel away from store to attend meetings at other facilities or headquarters. Also visits local competitors to check prices, store conditions and trends and communicates this information upward.
