Summary
This is a part-time, weekend only position (12 hours each shift every weekend-Saturday 7 am - 7:30 pm and Sunday 7 am - 7:30 pm).
This position utilizes the nursing process and organizational/leadership skills to coordinate services of staff to patients during the designated weekend shifts. Ensures patient care is appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served. Assesses staff needs for the units each shift. Demonstrates flexibility in response to unexpected changes in volume, emergencies, staffing, or schedule changes on the night and weekend rotations. Schedule includes 12 hour shifts and typically every other weekend.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care Process
Supervises nursing staff to ensure the performance and documentation of a comprehensive psychosocial and physical assessment of the patients with data gathered through interview, observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation and reports.
Supervises and evaluates to what extent the desired outcomes have been achieved on night and weekend shifts. Monitors staff to ensure the reassessment of the patient in accordance with departmental policy.
Leads CQI projects for the night and weekend shifts, identifying areas for improvments and staff to participate.
Responsible for monitoring all Charge Nurse Duties (Assignment Sheets, Medication Administration, Chart Audits, etc.)
Management
Ensures that incident reports are completed in detail for every incident. Completes the debriefing form as appropriate after review with staff and patient. Reports all staff injuries and potential workers compensation claims on the
Staff/Visitor Injury Reports
and submits to Human Resources on the day following the occurrence of an injury. Notifies the ADON and CNO of any staff injuries.
Assists employees in improving/maintaining performance by establishing goals with measurable performance outcomes, action plans, and time frames.
Completes evaluations on supervised nursing staff .
Models professional practice within legal and regulatory parameters.
Participates in nursing and facility committees.
Assesses of the learning needs of team members and the initiation of continuing education to meet those needs.
Assesses needs of patients and delegates appropriately to team members.
Monitors for policy violations such as sleeping while on duty, excessive breaks and excessive use of telephones.
Completes employee and patient night supervisor reports. Reviews with or leaves for the ADON..
Performs charge nurse duties if necessary. Ensures staffing for the following shift.
Assigns personnel to units as indicated to provide adequate coverage for nursing care needs of the patients.
Models behavior reflective of the philosophy and policies of the organization.
Plans, organizes and evaluates material resources for effective, efficient use.
Competency

Maintains competencies of Nursing Supervisor
Develops with the ADON and/or CNO, a plan for personal goal attainment. Attends conferences, inservices, reads journals and texts to stay abreast of nursing management trends and skills.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the State of South Carolina as a. Registered Professional Nurse. ACLS Certification a plus.
Experience:
Two years experience in a supervisory position. Must have psychiatric & medical /surgical experience. Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with patients and families, to elicit cooperation and allay apprehensions. Must possess analytical ability to synthesize knowledge of nursing theory and practice, assessment and planning activities, technical expertise and delegation skills to provide effective nursing care.
