Description

Distribution Grid Operations is responsible for monitoring the activities of the electricity network, enabling access to authorized personnel and preventing interference to the network.  The Control Room provides a 24 hour emergency and operations response for the electricity network and maintains the business safety and operational targets.

 

In addition to these functions Distribution Grid Operations has responsibility for enabling increased synergies and efficiencies across the Division through Network data management and the delivery of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects in alignment with the Technology and Information Management Strategy (the IT Strategy).

  • Developing, implementing and managing power system operating procedures to ensure distribution asset performance meets customer, regulatory, and corporate reliability and performance standards
  • This position has responsibility for management of the distribution system and the declaration and coordination of system wide emergencies pursuant to the Power System Emergency Preparedness Plan
  • The incumbent is the primary contact for external stakeholders for co-ordination of power system restoration, isolation, and work protection 
  • This position may be required to work shifts during the day, afternoon & evening
Requirements
  • Minimum ten (10) years experience in an electrical utility with specific training, knowledge, and experience in electrical construction, maintenance and operations, including extensive overhead and associated underground electrical construction and maintenance
  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience working in the electrical field
  • M.E.A. Certified Power System Operator or Certified Engineer Technologist or Professional Engineer or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiar with reading electrical drawings, work protection codes, feeder/operating prints, overhead distribution system, underground distribution system , work practices and standards
  • Familiar with various computer systems/applications including safety performance tracking systems, accident/incident investigation techniques, work management and general office automation tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant safety, electrical and environmental legislation and regulations
  • Strong leadership skills; possesses a sense of mission with high priority for safety and results
  • Strong relationship building ability, builds rapport, establishes positive relationship with stakeholders
  • Coaching; acts as a resource and coach in enabling individuals to reach their full potential; empowers staff to motivate and encourage growth of abilities
